Sola Coffea Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Sola Coffea ("Sola Coffea," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Sola Coffea app and related services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following categories:
- Your private coffee library: coffee and brew logs, notes, ratings, shop details, visit history, equipment records, signature drink recipes, and photos you attach. This content is private to you and syncs through your personal iCloud account.
- Profile and community content: if you use Sola Coffea's community features, we collect the content you choose to share — your display name, profile photo, optional bio, posts, comments, likes, follows, Coffee Circles you create or join, shared cupping sessions, coffees you share by link, and (for shop owners) shop claims, owner responses, and Bean Board entries. You may also optionally choose to share parts of your profile, such as your wishlist, coffee logs, shop map, or origin passport.
- Information from permissions you grant: camera (QR scanning and taking photos), photo library (choosing and saving images), location (finding nearby shops and map features), Bluetooth (connecting to coffee scales), notifications (brew timers and reminders), and Apple Health (reading and writing caffeine entries, only if you enable it).
- Subscription and transaction data: subscription status and product entitlements provided by Apple StoreKit. Payment processing is handled by Apple, not by us.
- Operational and analytics data: import/scan event metadata used to improve QR import reliability (for example import source, payload type/version, app version/build, and a random app install identifier). This data may include coffee metadata present in the imported payload and associated shop/location/campaign identifiers when available.
- iCloud/CloudKit identifiers: CloudKit record identifiers tied to your Apple account, used to sync your data and to attribute community content you publish.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Operate core app features, including coffee tracking, brew tools, shop discovery, and insights.
- Power community features such as posts, comments, follows, Coffee Circles, and sharing — for the content and audiences you choose.
- Sync your private library across your devices through iCloud/CloudKit.
- Provide map, weather, and elevation details for shops and brews, and connect to Bluetooth scales.
- Track your caffeine intake through Apple Health, when you enable it.
- Support subscriptions and restore purchases.
- Improve product quality and reliability.
3. Data Storage
Sola Coffea is built on Apple iCloud and CloudKit. We do not operate our own user-account servers, and we do not use third-party backends such as Firebase.
- Private data: your personal coffee library and related app data sync through your private iCloud/CloudKit storage, tied to your Apple account, and stay on your devices and in your personal iCloud storage.
- Community data: content you choose to publish (posts, comments, public profile, Coffee Circles, shared cuppings, shared coffees, shop responses) is stored in Sola Coffea's shared CloudKit database so that other users can see it. Public content is visible to other Sola Coffea users together with your display name, profile photo, and an Apple-issued account identifier.
Your identity in Sola Coffea is your Apple iCloud account; you do not create a separate username or password with us.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only as needed to run the service, including:
- Apple services: CloudKit/iCloud for private and community storage and sync, StoreKit for subscriptions, and Apple Health for caffeine tracking (Health data stays on your device under your control).
- Other users: content you choose to publish through community and sharing features is visible to other people, as described above.
- Map, weather, and elevation providers: to power shop discovery, maps, and brew details, the app may send approximate location or coordinates to Google (Places and Maps), Open-Meteo (weather), and Open Topo Data (elevation).
- Coffee reference sources: to help fill in coffee details, the app may request publicly available information from coffee reference websites (such as Coffee Review). These requests do not include your personal library data.
- Legal/safety reasons: when required by law or to protect users and the service.
- Business transfer: if our business is reorganized, sold, or merged.
Sola Coffea does not use third-party advertising SDKs for targeted advertising, and does not use third-party analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.
5. On-Device Intelligence
Some features — such as reading coffee-bag labels, enriching roaster and coffee details, and generating insights, Coffee DNA, and Coffee Wrapped summaries — use Apple's on-device intelligence. This processing happens on your device. The underlying content is not sent to Sola Coffea or to a third-party AI service for these features.
6. Apple Health
If you enable it, Sola Coffea reads recent caffeine entries and writes estimated caffeine to Apple Health when you log a brew. Health data stays in Apple Health on your device, is never used for advertising, and is not shared with third parties. You can turn this off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings > Health.
7. Data Retention
- We retain your data while your app usage remains active, or as needed to provide the service.
- You can delete your private data and your community account and content at any time. See Delete Your Account for details.
8. Your Choices and Controls
- Permissions: you can control camera, photos, location, Bluetooth, notifications, and Apple Health access in iOS Settings.
- Sharing: community and profile sharing is optional, and you choose what to publish. You can edit or remove content you have shared.
- Subscription management: manage or cancel subscriptions from your Apple ID settings.
- Data deletion: delete your data and account as described on the Delete Your Account page. For additional help, contact us at support@solacoffea.app.
9. Children
Sola Coffea is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure.
11. International Use
Your data may be processed in regions where Apple and the service providers listed above operate.
12. Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at this URL and update the effective date above.
